EMSQ Modern - July 2019
Top 8 Decklists - European Modern Series Qualifier
It was a packed house for our EMSQ, despite the sweltering heat and our not quite ready air-conditioning. All told 59 players competed for the coveted spot and these are the Deck Lists of the top 8 players left standing after a hard fought day.
The final was contested between Jason Rogers on Jund and Ciaran Sidnell on UW control, with Ciaran already having faced and defeated two GB players earlier in the day. Unfortunately for him, the third proved his downfall and Jason Rogers was crowned as our Qualifier from the day, joining the growing list of players who will be joining us at our MEGA Weekend on the 7th & 8th September to compete in the European Modern Series Finals.
As can be seen in his list, Jason took an unusual approach to Jund, favouring a more classic take that is heavy on Bloodbraid Elf and light on Wrenn and Six. Jason felt that he could gain an edge on the relatively lightweight Jund players featuring Wrenn and Six by going bigger with Bloodbraid and Vraska, Golgari Queen. The latter really shone when facing mirror matches, effectively preventing his opponents from playing any spells.
Jund, and it's close cousin GB Rock, were the most numerous representatives in the Top 8 with 3 decks leading their pilots into the knockout stages. Dredge proved to still be popular placing 2 decks into the Top 8, though as can be seen the other Top 8 players were still ready with their graveyard hate. Rounding out the Top 8 were a UW control, a Humans deck and Mono Red Phoenix.
All in all it was a great day and we look forward to doing it all again at our Modern for Goodies on the 10th August.
