MEGA Modern - April 2022 Decklists

 There were 278 players that sat down on Saturday morning with the aim of becoming the MEGA Modern champion!

Only one of them would be able to achieve this though and after 9 tough rounds PLUS a gruelling quarter-final and semi-final in a stacked Top 8, Charles Eliatamby came out on top!

Charles skillfully piloted his Amulet Titan deck to the top spot, splitting the final with former Mythic Champion Autumn Burchett, but coming first by virtue of a higher Swiss finish (1st place). As his reward he goes home with a trophy declaring him the winner PLUS a crate (6 boxes) of Collector Boosters of Streets of New Capenna and a crate of Set Boosters of Streets of New Capenna! Autumn shouldn't be too disappointed though as they also won a crate of Set Boosters of Streets of New Capenna and 6 boxes of Collector Boosters of Streets of New Capenna - exactly the same as Charles, a just reward for their magnificent undefeated run. The rest of the Top 8 'walked away' (well, a figure of speech, as the set is not quite released yet!) with a crate of Set Boosters of Streets of New Capenna.

 

In terms of the decks that made-up the Top 8 there were two copies of Amulet Titan (with one coming out on top), two copies of UR Murktide, two flavours of 4 Colour, a Boros Hammertime and a UW Control. On the whole these decks don't diverge too much from the established meta that developed from the release of Modern Horizons 2. Amulet Titan finding its way to the top is hardly surprising as the release of Boseiju, Who Endures really shored up its weakness to Blood Moon. Now, the only factor seeming to hold the deck back is the high skill level and deck familiarity required of its pilot. The two varieties of 4 Colour decks are largely similar, based on the value oriented and powerful companion Yorion, Sky Nomad. Autumn Burchett though has expressed themselves a bit more in deck construction, featuring Titania, Protector of Argoth and a heavier focus on elemental synergy.

 

The MEGA Modern was a huge success and proved incredibly popular amongst the players, even those who didn't win any of the awesome prizes on offer. As a result we want to thank everyone who came and made the day as great as it was. We would also like to thank our Judge staff who ran the event beautifully, keeping everything running on time and making sure everyone was taken care of.

 

Lastly, I want to remind everyone that we will be doing this all again on Saturday the 18th of June 2022!
